As a driver, you often have to share the road with bicycles. Sometimes this doesn't come easily. Bicyclists may not always obey traffic laws. Roads may be narrow, without any extra lanes or considerable space left for bicycles to travel and maneuver. Even responsible and experienced drivers may sometimes find sharing the road with a bike challenging. Because bicyclists are usually at a greater risk of severe injuries or death in the occasion of a crash with a motor vehicle, there's been a push for additional legislation to protect them on the road. In early fall of 2013, a new law was signed that will go into effect in California in mid-September of this year: the Three Feet for Safety Act.

In a case which was just published, the First District Court of Appeal in People v. Mashburn, ruled that a certificate of probable cause is required in addition to a notice of appeal when the plea bargain involves a waiver of appellate rights. This case is an extremely important case for Fresno Criminal Lawyers. As a criminal law practitioner, I am always on the look out for cases that are potential malpractice traps.

The recent massive credit card security breach at Target stores during a period from late November to mid-December has put a spotlight on the crime of credit card fraud. This specific instance of the crime speaks of great technological sophistication and coordination, as the criminals were able to bypass Target's security and hack the sensitive card information they needed. Approximately 40 million accounts were compromised, and stolen account information is already appearing for sale on the black market. This recent example of credit card fraud is rather extreme, and in its scope and repercussions doesn't reflect what most credit card fraud cases are like. However, even though the magnitude of each crime differs, the underlying statutes in California law don't.

Recently, I had a chance to read the article regarding the lady in Michigan who was sentenced to five years for bringing false rape charges against two men. She was also convicted of tampering with evidence by using makeup to create fake bruises. I applaud the district attorney's office for bringing these charges against her and pursuing this case.

A fight outside of the Elbow Room Restaurant in Fig Garden Village has left two 24-year-old men in serious trouble. One man, the victim of the fight, is dealing with serious medical consequences. The second is facing very dire legal fallout. Apparently, the two men knew each other and had had some kind of long-simmering feud since an altercation about a year ago, according to The Fresno Bee. When they saw each other outside the Elbow Room, they got into a fistfight.

This week, several individuals were arrested on allegations that they ran a California housing fraud scheme that resulted in over 20 properties being seized across the state. The chargers were brought by the Attorney General's Office and involved five Fresno residents. Involving more than 200 counts, the charges ranged ranged from perjury to falsifying evidence.
